IBMT offers innovations
Innovation Bureau of Metallurgical Technology (IBMT), Moscow, has developed for R&D Center, United Metallurgical Company (UMC) Steel Melting (SM) simulator. The simulator is developed on the basis of newest thermodynamic theory and unique models that allow researchers to take into account all peculiarities of objects simulated.
IBMT SM simulators accurately describe the whole system of thermo- and mass-transfer processes which take place in melting furnaces and secondary metallurgy facilities. It allows to obtain information on temperature and chemical composition of metal, slag and waste gas during the processes at any moment by means of simulation.
Simulation of Non-Metallic Inclusions Formation during Liquid Steel Reoxidizing
The results of simulation of reoxidation inclusions formation in Si- and Al-killed steel grades were presented by Alexander Alexeenko (Lasmet Co. - Laboratory of Special Metallurgy) at the International Symposium on Liquid Metal Processing and Casting (Santa Fe, New Mexico USA, September 20-23, 2009). By the use of the simulation authors have found an explanation for high Mn inclusions formation in Si- and Al-killed steels. The developed method can be used for investigation of inclusions formation in various liquid steels and alloys under any conditions.
You can find the Abstract and Full Presentation at section “Library”.
The Presentation Summary:
Computer Simulation of Oxide Inclusions Transformation during Secondary Steelmaking and Casting
The software for simulation of liquid oxide inclusions transformation during secondary steelmaking and casting was presented by Alexander Alexeenko (Lasmet Co. - Laboratory of Special Metallurgy) at steelmaking session of the Asia Steel International Conference 2009 (Busan, Korea, May 24-27, 2009).
The Presentation Summary:
Some steel grades, e.g. rail, cord, deep drawing, pipe steels, etc. are strictly controlled on non-metal inclusions characteristics (composition, size, quantity per unit). It is necessary to guarantee a good workability during manufacturing and high mechanical properties of products.
On the Origin of the White Spot Defect in Vacuum Arc Remelted Ingots
The analysis of the origin of the white spot defect in vacuum arc remelted ingots was presented by Felix Shved (Lasmet Co. - Laboratory of Special Metallurgy) at the International Symposium on Liquid Metal Processing and Casting (Santa Fe, New Mexico USA, September 20-23, 2009). The main currently known peculiarities of white spots were discussed and explained. Also an attempt was made to explain the origin of the defects, observed by a group of investigators in Alloy 718 ingot, remelted at abnormally long arc gap.
You can find the Abstract and Full Presentation at section “Library”.
The Presentation Summary:
